Richter

Thomas Anthony Richter passed away March 3, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born Feb. 25, 1938, he was preceded in death by his parents, Tedor John Richter and Agnes (O’Shoney) Richter.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri; son, Steven; daughter-in-law, Brooke (Robertson); brother, Roger; and three grandchildren, Chasen, Cricket and Ivy.

Tom was an Eagle Scout and achieved the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy from which he retired in 1991.

His degrees included a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in metallurgical engineering and a Bachelor of Science in naval science, all from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He was a proud member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at the University of Wisconsin.

His business interest was Richter Enterprises, designing and supplying electro-optics products to the aerospace industry, research facilities and national laboratories. 

With help from a band of brothers, he resurrected the Kings Bay Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).

Final arrangements are with Allison Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in St. Marys. Services will be conducted in Newport, R.I., and Tom’s ashes inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Kings Bay Chapter/MOAA, Richter Fund,” P.O. Box 47191, Kings Bay, GA 31547.

Colleen Marie Robbins, 47, of Kingsland died Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Southeast Georgia Health System.

Darryl Spencer Ellis was born on July 26, 1957, to Mildred and Howard Ellis Sr. in Woodbine.

He attended the public schools of Camden County and spent the better part of 30 years working with the youth football program in the county. Coach Dee, as he was known by many, had a positive impact on the lives of many young men who played football and excelled locally and beyond. He loved the Camden County Wildcats and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Although his passion was sports talk (anytime and anywhere), Coach Dee realized that there was a God and decided to change his life. He joined Brown’s Chapel AME Church and was baptized by Rev. Ronald Hamilton on April 13, 2014.

On Feb. 20, 2018, God decided that Coach Dee had put up a good fight following an extended illness and called him home. He will be missed by a host of family members and friends.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Howard, and his brother, Gregory.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Mildred Ellis of Woodbine; a sister, Brenda (Patrick) Ellis-Forbes of Bronx, N.Y.; brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) of Baker, La., Leon of Tulsa, Okla., Howard (Loucklin) of Lincolnton, Bernard (Juanita) of Lumberton, N.J., and Keith (Karon) of St. Marys; an aunt, Myrtle Rauls; an uncle, Freddie Ellis; and a great-aunt, Roberta Campbell, all of Kingsland; and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at First Baptist Church in Woodbine. Burial followed in Woodbine Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Hamp Brown, Dane Best, Cory Sullivan, Bernard Brown, Leonard Green and Tracy Drummond. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Copps, Isaac Hamilton, Jerome Wooden, Julian Sermons, Curtis Cummings and Freddie Parrish.

Dee Dewain Gaskill, 81, of St. Marys passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at Community Hospice, Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina, Fla.

Born March 16, 1936, in Spencerville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Earl Gaskill Sr. and Francis Huber Gaskill. He was also predeceased in death by his five brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Ann Steinbach Gaskill; children, Rosemarie Ann Jones (Mark), Victoria Ann Brooks (Harry) and Timothy Dewain Gaskill (Edith); grandchildren, Rhonda Marie Peterson (Kurt ), Teresa Lynn Smith (Fred), Brandy Jean Faircloth, Stephanie Laurence Cato (Jamie), Joshua Michael LaRock, David Gaskill, Brian Gaskill, Brittney Nichoel Moore, Alexis Gaskill and Jessica Gaskill; great-grandchildren, Jacob Peterson, Tyler  Peterson, Tekoa Peterson, Justice Walker, Owen Smith, Jaida Walker, Liberty Walker, Cali Walker,  Jacob Ireland, Zachary Faircloth, Autumn Nichoel Moore and Johnathan Alexander Moore; and a brother, Ronald Gaskill (Becky).

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a loving husband and a good friend to many. He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at St. Marys United Methodist Church, 106 Conyers St. in St. Marys, with Pastor Tom Jones officiating and military honors. A reception will follow services.

Richard Gary Kennison, 56, of Kingsland passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 5, 2018, at his residence.

Born July 20, 1961, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Gloria J. Kennison. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Kennison Jr.

Gary had been a resident of Camden County since 2012. He was a truck driver and an expert dry wall finisher. He raced cars at the Jax Raceway, was a gun and knife collector and enjoyed fishing. Gary loved and adored his family.

Survivors include his wife, Zina Kennison of Callahan, Fla.; children, Kaleb Kennison of Oceanway, Fla., Mackenzie Kennison and Taylor Kennison, both of Callahan, Fla., and John Michael Sutton of St. Marys; and a brother, Randy Kennison of St. Marys.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Seleta Shaw London Stacy, 77, of St. Marys (formerly of Fairburn), passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. 

Seleta was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Atlanta and raised in Fairburn. She was educated in the Fairburn public schools and graduated in 1958 from Campbell High School. She graduated from Tift College in Forsyth in 1962 with her Bachelor of Science in Education. She did graduate work at the University of Georgia. Seleta was a 30-year career educator in the Fulton County schools. 

Seleta was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack R. London, and her parents, Ernest Victor Shaw and Floried Duncan Shaw.

She is survived by her second husband, James T. Stacy Sr. of St. Marys; daughter, LeAnn London Bunch (Leonard) of Newport News, Va.; son, Allen S. London (Eve) of Macon; stepson, J. Thomas Stacy Jr. (Danielle) of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, William D. Shaw of Newnan; granddaughter, Carrie Bunch Walters (Chris) of Holland, Mich.; grandsons, William Bunch of Newport News, Va., Shaw London of Macon and Hendley London of Macon; great-grandson, Tucker Schwind of Holland, Mich.; and great-granddaughter, Ella Walters of Holland, Mich.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the First Baptist Church of Fairburn. Interment followed at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, in the sanctuary of St. Marys Presbyterian Church.

Louis T. Carter (Lou) went to eternal rest on Feb. 26, 2018, at Brunswick hospital due to a long illness.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1929, in Jacksonville, Fla., and was a longtime resident of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angelica Carter. He leaves behind his son, James Carter of Hastings, Fla.; and a brother, Carlton Carter of Tennessee.

He served in the Air Force and retired after 24 years. He was a Vietnam veteran.

There will be a memorial service with military honors at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.

Contributions made in Lou’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nannie Josephine Lanham, 94, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the home of her grandson, Robbie Lanham, in Charles Town, W.Va.

She was born on April 24, 1923, and was a longtime resident of Loudoun County, having lived in Leesburg, Va., for more than 60 years. She served as cafeteria manager at Loudoun County Public Schools for many years. Nannie had a love for cooking and gardening. She enjoyed going to church every week and taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.

She was predeceased by her mother, Fannie May Grey; father, Willis Carl Hough; brothers, Alex, Willis and Charles Hough; sisters, Thelma Chapman, Annie West, Alma Henry and Mary Tomblin; her husband, Charles Walker Lanham; son, Robert James Lanham; and great-grandson, Christian Alexander Dinkins.

She is survived by her sons, Charles (Bill, Chuck) William Lanham of St. Marys and Roger Lee Lanham of Purcellville, Va.; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Polly) Glesner of Martinsburg, W.Va.; grandchildren, Robert K. Lanham of Charles Town, W.Va., William J. (Bill) and Cindy Lanham of Franklin, N.J., Kimberly Lanham Dinkins of Winchester, Va., and Kathleen Lanham Hardy of West Virginia; great-grandchildren, Randy Lanham of Inwood, W.Va., Amber Welch of Charles Town, W.Va., Angela Lanham and Andrea Lanham of Franklin, N.J., and Tanner Lee Dinkins and Ava Catherine Dinkins of Berryville, Va.; and great-great-grandchildren, Olivia Welch and Christian Welch of Charles Town, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Va. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, with Pastor Nichols of Loudoun Baptist Temple officiating with interment following at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bloomfield, Va. 

Pall bearers are David Lanham, Joe Lanham, Robbie Lanham, Bill Lanham, Ross Myers and Tanner Dinkins. Honorary pall bearers are Mark Simmons, Brad Myers, Ben Myers and Jerry Tomblin.

Sharon R. Fields, 62, of Kingsland died at her residence, surrounded by her family, in the early morning hours of Friday, March 16, 2018.

A visitation for the Fields family will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys. She will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville.

Ralph Anthony Alfano, 85, of St. Marys passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Quality Health Care Nassau in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Born Dec. 18, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Ralphael and Grace Alfano. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rose Laino Alfano.

Mr. Alfano had been a resident of Camden County since 1999 and was of the Catholic faith. He  loved gardening and wood work. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country honorably during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his two daughters, Diane Wood (William) of St. Marys and Maureen Koo (Scott) of East Meadow, N.Y.; two brothers, John Alfano of New Jersey and Dickie Alfano of New York; four grandchildren, Will Wood, Tricia Heinriech, Nicole Koo and Joey Koo; five great-grandchildren, Luke, Zoe, Jake, Parker and Kara; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Richard Pinto was born Feb. 26, 1963, his sunset was March 15, 2018. The man, the godfather, the legend. Men and women wanted to follow him.

Richard was the husband to Maria (Betty) Pinto; father to Richard Jr., Cely, Robert (Bobby), Michael (Mikey), Eddy and Carlos Jesus (CJ) Pinto; and a lovable son of Luis Pinto, Maria Fernandez and Mama Tonñita. Pinto was a brother to Jonny, Eddy, Luis and Rossie Pinto. He was also grandfather to many and a wonderful godfather to Lesly Cabrera.

Pinto, a proud military vet (Army Strong) with great skills, a compassionate heart and stern attitude leaves to cherish many memories to all his McDonald’s family and others along the way. He was a man with the highest integrity, full of love for his family, respected by all his employees while being a mentor to many in need of guidance, among those Ailin Estevez and Melissa King, not only friends to him but his disciples as many others that gave him all their time and efforts.

He was a man that always lived by his core values and self-fulfillment to the absolute fullest. May God have him by his side and give him joy and let him know his legacy, teachings, love and memories will live and flourish in all the people he touched.

Funeral services and a gathering of friends and family were held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.

Deborah Kay Lewis, 67, of Kingsland passed away March 17, 2018.

She was born in El Paso, Texas. She was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a resident of Kingsland for the past 37 years. People knew her best from either the Lunchbox, Aunt B’s and Aden’s Minute Market where she always greeted everyone with a smile and showed God’s love.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nephi Leroy Jarvis.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Paul “J.P.” Lewis; four children, Jenniffer Griffin, Karla Perreault, Samantha Bryant and Kevin Lewis; her mother, Billie Ruth Simms Jarvis; a sister, Shirley Moffitt; two brothers, Roy Jarvis and William Jarvis; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorialization will be by cremation. Mrs. Lewis’ wish was for everyone to celebrate her life by doing a good deed in her honor.

James R. “Mickie” McDonnell Jr., 58, of Kingsland passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, from the results of a vehicle accident.

Mickie was born March 13, 1960, in Portsmouth, Va. He had been a resident of Camden County since 2003 and was a machinist supervisor at Trident Refit Facility, Kings Bay. He was an avid baseball and softball player, fisherman, furniture builder, especially loved crossword games and was an Angry Birds expert.

A celebration of Mickie’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.

Survivors include his son, Joshua Cox of Virginia; daughters, Amanda “Mandy” McDonnell and Ashley McDonnell of Florida; father, James R. McDonnell Sr. of Virginia; brother, Patrick McDonnell; sisters, Toni Caulkins and Kellie Blair; fiancée, Christy Denney of Georgia; stepson, Kent Denney of Georgia; grandchildren, Joshua Cox Jr., Brodie Cox, Jacob McDonnell and Lilly Dubberly; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Ann McDonnell.

Gwendolya L. Fink, 88, of Kingsland died in the late evening hours of Thursday, March 8, 2018, at UF Health/Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Hidden Treasures Assembly of God located at 433 W. King Ave. in Kingsland. Mrs. Fink will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

Margaret Ann Ward, 72, of Kingsland passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her residence.

Born March 9, 1946, in New York, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Ward. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Karabec.

Mrs. Ward had been a resident of Camden County for the past 22 years. She had been employed with Leslie and Elliott Construction as a project manager, retiring with 10 years of service. She loved reading, fishing and art painting.

A celebration of Mrs. Ward’s life will be held in June on Cumberland Island. The date will be announced later.

Survivors include her children, Lynda Rice of Jacksonville, Fla., Serena A. Rice-Karpel (Kyle) of Kingsland and Jenifer Bates (Anthony) of Bradenton, Fla.; brothers, Thomas Ward and Shaun Dunn; grandchildren, Leclee Bright, Shane Karabec, Emily Karpel, Mary Jane Karpel, Elizabeth Karpel, Rebecca Bates, Christopher Bates and Ashley Bates; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Laurendine.

Emily Rollins Morrissey of St. Marys passed away at home peacefully March 18, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born and raised in Lake City, S.C., Emily and her husband Frank have called St. Marys home for the past 15 years.

Emily was preceded in death by her father, William G. Rollins, and mother, Anne G. Rollins.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Frank D. Morrissey of St. Marys; daughter, Fran Skipper (Phillip), and son, Bo Morrissey (Molly) of Franklin, Tenn.; and sister, Susan Herndon (Warren) of Lexington, S.C. She leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren who affectionately called her Meme, Lucy and

Reynolds Skipper and Blakely and Libby Morrissey. Also surviving are her brothers- and sister-in-law, John, Patrick, Michael and Angie Morrissey.

Emily graduated in education from The College of Charleston and was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. She received a master’s degree in speech pathology. Over the years, she helped hundreds of children through speech therapy and had a passion and lifelong commitment to education. Emily will be remembered for being a great servant to her church and community through Stephen Ministry, singing in the church choir and treating everyone she met with a loving heart.
