Frances Ann Sheppard, 81, of St. Simons Island went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Frances was born Nov. 29, 1936, in Middleton, Tenn. She attended Middleton High School and married Kenneth O. Sheppard on Sept. 16, 1988. She worked as a sales person and was self-employed until her retirement in June 1999. Her passion was reading her Bible and attending church.

She was a member of Forest View Baptist Church and was greatly loved by her church family. The night before she passed the church gathered at her room and sang the old church hymns that she dearly loved. She was visited by her sons and was able to talk via telephone and FaceTime to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Members of the church were at her side along with her pastor, who is also her son, at the time of death. Deacon Cliff Roberson and wife Elaine stayed by her side with family until she was taken to her heavenly home.

She was also loved by her family, friends and church family in Tennessee and was active in church attendance there. She will also be having a service at the Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar, Tenn. The resting place for earthly remains will be near Bolivar.

All her family, friends and church acquaintances are sincerely grateful that Jesus has relieved her from the health issues and suffering that she dealt with in the last few years of her life. Needless to say, she will be greatly missed by all.

Ralph Edward “Ed” Meier, 67, of Kingsland passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Feb. 7, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.

Ed was born in Lawrence, Kan., on Jan. 23, 1951, and spent his childhood in Lawrence and Trenton, N.J. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1969 and married Connie Jean Flory in 1971. They later divorced.

Ed enlisted in the United States Navy in 1971 and spent most of his distinguished 22-year military career on Trident submarines. He retired in 1993 as a master chief petty cfficer. He was a life member of the VFW. Ed was most recently employed with General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation in Kings Bay before retiring in 2017.

Ed was a talented artist and musician and a brilliant mind. He was a math whiz who taught himself how to play the banjo at a young age. He was uniquely gifted when it came to anything car related — repairs, design, infinite knowledge of every make and model imaginable — and had quite the reputation as a youngster for turning the back streets of Lawrence into drag racing strips. While still in high school, he started and managed his own roofing company.

Ed was a quiet guy with a big heart. He loved his family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, cheering them on at sporting events and dance recitals. And when his garage door was open, friends from near and far knew they were welcome to join him for some shop talk and an ice cold beer.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Mary Kathryn (Fenton) Meier and Wilbur J Meier.

He is survived by his siblings, Tom Meier and Mary (Bob) Meier LeGer; children, Marcy (Mitch) Meier Braselton, Justin Meier and Brandon (Becky) Meier; and grandchildren, Jackie and James Braselton and Aubrey and Katie Meier.

A private gathering of family and close friends will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society and VFW.
