Virginia Purvis Lang, 88, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Glenwood, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Minnie McDaniel Purvis. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lang Fulford.

Mrs. Lang was a longtime resident of Camden County of 67 years. She was a graduate of Brewton Parker College, receiving her associate’s degree in education and also teaching as well. When she moved to Camden County, later she met Mr. Calvin W. Lang Sr. and worked with him at Lang’s Seafood in the office, taking care of the bookkeeping and anything else that needed to be done.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, you never saw Mrs. Lang without that beautiful smile on her face. She was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin W. Lang Sr.; two sons, Calvin Lang Jr. (Lisa) and David Lang (Amy) all of St. Marys; sister, Sylvia Mitchell of Vidalia; brother, Kelly Purvis of Weatherford, Texas; five grandchildren, Tripp Lang, Anna Hendrix, Matt Fulford, Drew Lang and Alley Lang; four great-grandchildren, Riley Lang, Crew Lang, Emmie Grace Hendrix and Lawson Lang Hendrix; several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Drew Lang, Matt Fulford, Tripp Lang, Miles Hendrix, John Miller, Roy Lang and James “Buddy” McGhin. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Eskridge, Flem Hall, Jerry Lockhart, Jerry Brandon, Pete Brandon and Bill Smith.

Mary E. Street, 63, of White Oak passed away suddenly on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church in  White Oak. A wake will be held  from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Sunset Chapel. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mickeyon Nicole Green, 32, of Kingsland passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

Mickeyon Nicole Green was born on Nov. 30, 1984, to the late Jack Clinton Green Jr. and Teresia Ann Glover of Kingsland. She attended the public schools in Camden County and graduated in 2002. At a very young age, she joined New Wave of Glory Church. Mickeyon had a love for dancing, singing and listening to music.

Those preceding her in death are her father, Jack Clinton Green Jr.; sister, Tedra Klondra Green; brother, Devon Lamar Green; grandmothers, Naomi Spead and Cornelia Jackson; grandfathers, Commie Lee Spead and Clifford Dunham; uncles, Marvin Glover, Commie Lee Spead Jr., Herman Cornelius Glover and David Anthony Green; a special cousin, Tyece Glover.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted mother, Teresia Ann Glover; brothers, Anthony Green (Candice) of  Kingsland, Lydell Green of St. Marys, Antwin Glover of Atlanta and Jack Green III of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Tearris Glover and Keshuna Glover, both of Kingsland, Cornelia Green (Joseph Allen) of St. Marys and Ashley Green of Brunswick; grandfather, Jack Green Sr.; godsiblings, Kevin Anderson, Renae Elmore and Sunshine; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Miracle Temple Outreach Ministries.  There will be no wake. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in White Oak.

Debra Kay Basone, 57, of St. Marys passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Debra was born Dec. 13, 1959, in Canton, Ohio, and had resided in Camden County for the past 22 years. She always took care of anyone who was in need or just needing help, putting them before her own needs. She had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Survivors include her loving family, Pete Pinczes of St. Marys; three children, Nicole M. Pierce (Michael), Angelo Pinczes and Connie Sue Pinczes, all of St. Marys; three sisters, Renee Basone, Angela Carlin and Crissy DeVera, all of Ohio; two brothers, Nick Basone and Tommy Basone, both of Florida; grandchild, Adrianna Pierce; extended family, Joan Pinczes and family of Akron, Ohio, and Katrina Pinczes of Dodge City, Kans.; and several nieces and nephews.

Beverlee Janet Buenning, 73, of the Caney Place community in Kingsland died late in the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, Fla.

A celebration of Mrs. Buenning’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Point Peter Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Gibson presiding.

Virgil “Shorty” Crews, 81, of Folkston passed away Feb. 18 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was born June 2, 1935, to the late Walter Crews and Verdie Walker Crews. Shorty was an Army veteran during the Korean conflict. He retired in 1990 from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge after 20 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Turner Crews, and seven siblings, Lottie Redding, Bryant Crews, Louise Bechion, Delvin Crews, Quitman Crews, Monroe Crews and Corine Carter. 

He is survived by his two stepchildren, Reatha Blount and Jerald Ard (Debbie) of Folkston; three grandchildren, Anna Tate (U.S. Navy Lt. David) of Jacksonville, Fla., Brandi (Casey) Young and Amanda Horne of Folkston; five great-grandchildren, U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Wyatt Leugers of Indian Head, Md., Nolen Leugers and Chase Leugers of Jacksonville, Madelyn Young of Folkston and Paisley Horne of Folkston; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home with Rev. Jody Griffin officiating. Burial followed in Traders Hill Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Leugers, Nolen Leugers, Dan Wilson, Clarence McLendon, Gerald Crews and Shawn Sikes.

Miranda Deneane Sullivent, 34, of Tolar, Texas, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, in Granbury, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Stephenville Funeral Home with Ronnie Shackleford officiating. Interment will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery in Hood County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Miranda was born on March 28, 1982, in Tallahassee, Fla., to Bill Miller and Saundra Watkins. She married the love of her life, Buford Sullivent Jr. on June 18, 2001, in Kingsland. Miranda was a graduate of Camden County High School in Kingsland and was a loving wife and mother, staying home to raise her children. She was a member of the Cedar Point Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Buford Sullivent Jr. of Tolar; children, Loden Kade Sullivent and Brennan Stocks Sullivent of Tolar; father, Bill Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; mother, Saundra Watkins of Folkston; brother, Cody Miller of Kingsland; grandfather, Edgar C. Miller of Jacksonville; aunts, Janie K. Brennan and Peggy Miller both of Jacksonville; mother- and father-in-law, Johnnie and Buford Sullivent Sr. of Bluff Dale, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and loving family.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joscellen Sullivent; and grandmother, Jane W. Miller.

Richard Cody Norton, 21, of St. Marys passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Cody was born Feb. 18, 1995, in Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of Camden County. He was a loving husband, father, son, grandson and brother.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Tony Barber officiating. A reception will immediately follow the services at North River Cabin, 270 E. Meeting St. in St. Marys.

Survivors include his wife, Madison Pittman-Norton; daughter, Madeline Grace Norton; two stepdaughters, Emily Elizabeth Pittman and Sophia Mae Malone all of St. Marys; parents, Rick and Cindy Norton; sisters, Heather Clark (Shawn) and Marinna Norton all of White Oak; half-brother, Shawn Norton of Brunswick; grandmothers, Lora Carter and Margaret Norton; and several nieces and a nephew.

Randy Alexander Horn, 62, of Kingsland went to be with his beloved wife Linda Horn in Heaven on Feb. 18, 2017.  

He was born April 9, 1954, to the late George Everett and Shirley Alexander Horn. Randy was an amazing performer and enthusiastic radio announcer. He made his way in life performing with the traveling vaudeville show, “Baggy Pants & Company,” out of New York City and traveling the country with “Giggles Galore Comedy Show.”

When he decided to settle down, he chose the southeast coast. His performance ambition led him to become a longstanding radio announcer. Starting at WAPE, WQIK and then to KC93, he was able to develop his skills to take on his position at KBAY106, for which he was a part of the community in action for more than 33 years.

Throughout his life, he was in contact with so many amazing country artists and other talented people, including one of his own personal highlights being Red Skelton. Randy was also an active member of St. Mary’s Little Theatre and always supported his community with pride in any way he could.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sue Horn.

He is survived by a daughter Jessica Horn of Houston, Texas; a son, Timothy Harris (Gerry) of Kingsland; a brother, Gary Horn (Patty) of Middleburg, Fla.; a sister, Glenda Gimbel (Michael) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Patricia Sanders (Guy), Christina Tillman-Bean, Stephanie Sizemore (Jordan), Mathew Mork (Kelsey); and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Road in St. Marys.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Restoration Church, 2475 Village Drive in Kingsland. Pastor Gregg Gardell and Pastor Jordan Sizemore officiating. Burial to follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.

Glen Mitchell “Bubba” Kirk, 57, of Kingsland passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at his residence.

Born Oct. 3, 1959, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Ed and Geri Wood. He was also preceded in death by his son, Glen Mitchell Kirk Jr.; twin sister, Lynn Robinson; and two brothers, David and Johnny Knight.

Glen had resided in Camden County since 2004 and was employed as an electrician at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base since 1998. He enjoyed fishing, was a huge Gator fan and it was said he was fun-loving and life of the party. Glen was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Kirk, and daughter, Payton Kirk of Kingsland; sister, Cindy Cook of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Laurie A. Morton of Kingsland; mothers-in-law, Jeanne Murphy of St. Marys and Margaret Turney of St. Pete, Fla.; nieces, Shawna, Katelyn, Jessica, Melissa and Michelle; nephew, Donald; and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 25, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
