Horn

Randy Alexander Horn, 62, of Kingsland went to be with his beloved wife Linda Horn in Heaven on Feb. 18, 2017.  

He was born April 9, 1954, to the late George Everett and Shirley Alexander Horn. Randy was an amazing performer and enthusiastic radio announcer. He made his way in life performing with the traveling vaudeville show, “Baggy Pants & Company,” out of New York City and traveling the country with “Giggles Galore Comedy Show.”

When he decided to settle down, he chose the southeast coast. His performance ambition led him to become a longstanding radio announcer. Starting at WAPE, WQIK and then to KC93, he was able to develop his skills to take on his position at KBAY106, for which he was a part of the community in action for more than 33 years.

Throughout his life, he was in contact with so many amazing country artists and other talented people, including one of his own personal highlights being Red Skelton. Randy was also an active member of St. Marys Little Theatre and always supported his community with pride in any way he could.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sue Horn.

He is survived by a daughter Jessica Horn of Houston, Texas; a son, Timothy Harris (Gerry) of Kingsland; a brother, Gary Horn (Patty) of Middleburg, Fla.; a sister, Glenda Gimbel (Michael) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Patricia Sanders (Guy), Christina Tillman-Bean, Stephanie Sizemore (Jordan), Mathew Mork (Kelsey); and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Road in St. Marys.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Restoration Church, 2475 Village Drive in Kingsland. Pastor Gregg Gardell and Pastor Jordan Sizemore officiating. Burial to follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers presenting are Jim Proctor, Kenneth Smith, Bruce Nelson, Andrew Muller, Terry Smith and Lee Spell.

Glen Mitchell “Bubba” Kirk, 57, of Kingsland passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at his residence.

Born Oct. 3, 1959, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Ed and Geri Wood. He was also preceded in death by his son, Glen Mitchell Kirk Jr.; twin sister, Lynn Robinson; and two brothers, David and Johnny Knight.

Glen had resided in Camden County since 2004 and was employed as an electrician at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base since 1998. He enjoyed fishing, was a huge Gator fan and it was said he was fun-loving and life of the party. Glen was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Kirk, and daughter, Payton Kirk of Kingsland; sister, Cindy Cook of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Laurie A. Morton of Kingsland; mothers-in-law, Jeanne Murphy of St. Marys and Margaret Turney of St. Pete, Fla.; nieces, Shawna, Katelyn, Jessica, Melissa and Michelle; nephew, Donald; and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 25, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ray Perkins, Ricky Bickley, Jimmy Pausche, Joshua Palm, Brian Conner, Fadi Senan, David Harper, Donald Cook. Honorary pallbearers are co-workers at Kings Bay Support Services.

Virgil “Shorty” Crews, 81, of Folkston passed away Feb. 18 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was born June 2, 1935, to the late Walter Crews and Verdie Walker Crews. Shorty was an Army veteran during the Korean conflict. He retired in 1990 from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge after 20 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Turner Crews, and seven siblings, Lottie Redding, Bryant Crews, Louise Bechion, Delvin Crews, Quitman Crews, Monroe Crews and Corine Carter. 

He is survived by his two stepchildren, Reatha Blount and Jerald Ard (Debbie) of Folkston; three grandchildren, Anna Tate (U.S. Navy Lt. David) of Jacksonville, Fla., Brandi (Casey) Young and Amanda Horne of Folkston; five great-grandchildren, U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Wyatt Leugers of Indian Head, Md., Nolen Leugers and Chase Leugers of Jacksonville, Madelyn Young of Folkston and Paisley Horne of Folkston; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home with Rev. Jody Griffin officiating. Burial followed in Traders Hill Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Leugers, Nolen Leugers, Dan Wilson, Clarence McLendon, Gerald Crews and Shawn Sikes.

Miranda Deneane Sullivent, 34, of Tolar, Texas, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, in Granbury, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Stephenville Funeral Home with Ronnie Shackleford officiating. Interment will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery in Hood County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Miranda was born on March 28, 1982, in Tallahassee, Fla., to Bill Miller and Saundra Watkins. She married the love of her life, Buford Sullivent Jr. on June 18, 2001, in Kingsland. Miranda was a graduate of Camden County High School in Kingsland and was a loving wife and mother, staying home to raise her children. She was a member of the Cedar Point Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Buford Sullivent Jr. of Tolar; children, Loden Kade Sullivent and Brennan Stocks Sullivent of Tolar; father, Bill Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; mother, Saundra Watkins of Folkston; brother, Cody Miller of Kingsland; grandfather, Edgar C. Miller of Jacksonville; aunts, Janie K. Brennan and Peggy Miller both of Jacksonville; mother- and father-in-law, Johnnie and Buford Sullivent Sr. of Bluff Dale, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and loving family.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joscellen Sullivent; and grandmother, Jane W. Miller.

Richard Cody Norton, 21, of St. Marys passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Cody was born Feb. 18, 1995, in Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of Camden County. He was a loving husband, father, son, grandson and brother.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Tony Barber officiating. A reception will immediately follow the services at North River Cabin, 270 E. Meeting St. in St. Marys.

Survivors include his wife, Madison Pittman-Norton; daughter, Madeline Grace Norton; two stepdaughters, Emily Elizabeth Pittman and Sophia Mae Malone all of St. Marys; parents, Rick and Cindy Norton; sisters, Heather Clark (Shawn) and Marinna Norton all of White Oak; half-brother, Shawn Norton of Brunswick; grandmothers, Lora Carter and Margaret Norton; and several nieces and a nephew.

Mrs. Peggy Latrell Johnson, 79, of the Ann Street neighborhood in St. Marys passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mrs. Johnson was born on March 25, 1937, in Bristol, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Dalton and Maude Carter Rogers. 

Mrs. Johnson was a loving wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law and grandmother. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had pride and enjoyment from growing plants and flowers. She especially enjoyed her Friday night get togethers with friends. But, her favorite pastime was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Lori A. (Matt) Johnson of St. Marys, Reggie (Cathy) Johnson of Kingsland and David (Dee) Johnson of St. Marys; her brother, Ronnie (Geraldine) Roger of Waycross; her grandchildren, Nikki (Scott) Tucker, Cody (Kimberly) Johnson, Kayla (Vickie) Johnson, Haleigh (Jake) Carter and Miranda (Roy) Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Taylor, Braelyn Ralph, Lily Johnson, Tenley Johnson, Boe Carter and Cheyenne Carter.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Johnson joins her beloved husband, William Revis Johnson, in Heaven.

A visitation will start at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Westside Baptist Church in St. Marys. Funeral services will follow there at noon with Pastor Mark Gentry presiding. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys following the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Andy Rogers, Jason Rogers, Roger Pate, Cody Johnson, Jake Carter and Ricky Wimpey. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Warren, Tommy King, Charles Ulmer and the men of Westside Baptist Church.

Gary David Dubois, 48, of St. Marys passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017.

Gary was born Nov. 29, 1968, in Rochester, N.H., to the late Thomas and Lillian Dubois. He was raised in Somersworth, N.H. Gary was the youngest of five siblings. Growing up he was a star athlete who loved the outdoors. He graduated from Somersworth High School in 1988.

He became employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, then transferred to the Kings Bay naval sub base in 1992. He went through an apprentice program for welding, then after more than 20 years of service went on to become a shop supervisor.

He met the love of his life, Anne, in 1999 and they then married in 2003. Gary was a dedicated father and husband who knew how important a family element was. He was loved by everyone he met; Gary's extended family in Scotland adored him. He had a great passion for the outdoors that he loved sharing with his family. Gary will be truly missed, not only by his survivors but also by anyone who may have had the pleasure of knowing him.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Dubois; daughter, Stacey Wharton; two sons, Adam Wharton and Matthew Dubois; granddaughter, Ava Wharton; two brothers, Michael Dubois and Peter Dubois; two sisters, Cheryl Lagueux and Betty Lussier; Miller family in Scotland and all other extended family in New Hampshire and Maine.   

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Pastor Steve Kegley officiating. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home Monday.

Mr. Charles Augustus Campbell, 80, of Blackshear passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at the home of his daughter, Robin Campbell Thornton.

Born in Screven on Dec. 10, 1936, he had lived in Waycross for many years before moving to Blackshear around 18 years ago. Mr. Campbell retired from United Parcel Service after 32 years of service. He was inducted into the prestigious United Parcel Service Circle of Honor — a group for the elite drivers who never had an accident. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge No. 369 and loved yard sales and auctions. Mr. Campbell was a quick-witted and friendly people-person and was a very loving father and grandfather. He attended Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.

He was a son of the late John Kiser and Ellen Anderson Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Buck Cambell; and by a brother-in-law, Frank Watkins.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Phillips Campbell of Blackshear; two daughters, Robin Campbell Thornton of St. Marys and Holly A. Campbell of Blackshear; a sister, Thelma Watkins of Tucker; a sister-in-law, Mary Campbell of Lake Oconee; three grandchildren, Katharine Ann Carter, Anna Marie Campbell and Mason Walker Campbell; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Campbell will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Youmans Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Campbell will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family kindly requests retired and present employees of UPS (Blackshear) to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Jesse Lewis Durbin, 67, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

Born Dec. 19, 1949, in Salem, Ore., he was the son of the late Warren and Pansy Durbin. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Jesse was a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy and served his country honorably, retiring with 24 years of service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Kings Bay and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Susan E. Durbin of St. Marys; daughters, Tina Frank (Eric) of St. Marys, Aimee Donahue (Jim) of Kingsland and Jessie Durbin of St. Marys; son, Jonathan Durbin of St. Marys; brother, Charles Durbin Sr. (Therese) of Salem; sister, Theresa Wallace of Eufaula, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Michael Frank (Morgan), Anthony Frank, Kimberlin Frank, Ashly Gentile (Jeffrey), Abigail Donahue, Robert Donahue and Rafael Fernandez; four great-grandchildren, Dresden, Daniel, Lucas and Cole; two godchildren, Matt Durbin and Margaret Schlag; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at St. Francis of Assisi Kings Bay  with Father Ray Leonard, Father Stephen Gergel and Father John Kaul officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Allison Memorial Chapel.

An entombment will be held Monday, March 6, at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem with full military honors.

The family requests contributions in memory of Jesse L. Durbin be made to the American Heart Association.

Peggy D. Turner, 82, of St. Marys passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

Born May 17, 1934, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda Carper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Stanford Turner.

Mrs. Turner had been a resident of Camden County since 1980 and was a member of Agape Christian Fellowship Church. She represented her church by visiting the Senior Care Center in St. Marys once a week, also monthly where she celebrated the birthdays of the senior care citizens. She was a member of God’s Girls Bible study. Mrs. Turner was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Survivors include her four daughters, Sandy Bryan (Ed) and Jolene Taylor of Pinch, W.Va., Bambi Larch (Joe) of Elkview, W.Va., and Tammy Boggs (Blaine) of St. Marys; brother, John Carper (Midge) of Quick, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Turner will be entombed with her beloved husband, Jack, at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Charleston, W.Va.

Helen E. Wood, 77, of St. Marys passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Born Feb. 8, 1940, in Oceanside, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen Russo.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Wood Sr.; daughter, Donna Wood; and great-grandson, Michael.

Mrs. Wood had been a resident of Camden County for the past 18 years. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her son, William H. Wood Jr. (Diane) of St. Marys; daughter, Darlene Wood (Richard) of New York; brother, Nicholas Russo Jr. of New York; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

She was born July 8, 1932, in Mayday to the late Carol Bentley Ziegler and Nolie Stenson Ziegler.  She was the founding minister at Crossroads Pentecostal Church. She founded the church in 1995.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tony Bennett; and a daughter, Sonya B. Crocker.

She is survived by  four children, Sheryl Keene, Randy Bennett, Tyrone Bennett and Donna Bennett; four sisters, Inez Ziegler, Elizabeth Palmetto, Ruth Turner and Betty Bennett; two brothers, Lawrence Ziegler and David Ziegler; grandchildren, Scott Crews, Belinda Crews, Tonya Smitherson, Randy Bennett, Richard Bennett, Tonileigh Olson, Kimberly Saturday, Brian Crocker, Garrett Tanner and Jessica Tanner; great-grandchildren, Timothy Holder, Madison Smitherson, Scott Crews, Dewayne Crews, Kaitlyn Crews, Joseph Crews, William Kemp, Abigail Kemp, Callum Crocker, Kadence Fitzherbert, Kaylee Saturday and Caleb Olson; great-great-grandchildren, Saren Crews and Kimber Crews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Crossroads Pentecostal Church with Rev. Chad Middleton officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
