Calvin Wilson Lang Sr., 91, of St. Marys passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at his residence with his family by his side.
Mr. Lang was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and was the son of the late William G. Lang Sr. and Emmie P. Lang. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Purvis Lang, and daughter, Mary Lang Fulford.
He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during World War II, and a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church.
As a second-generation shrimper, it was Calvin Lang who set the course to give the distinct title of Rock Shrimp Capital, and stayed the course, fueling his industry for future generations from one to four to seven shrimp boats at one time. He owned Lang’s East Marina, Lang’s West Marina that had enough dockage space for 100 boats, Lang’s Seafood Restaurant that has received national acclaim and also ferry boats that make the trips to our historic Cumberland Island. Mr. Lang achieved what many men only aspire to: the respect of his employees, his peers and his community. He will be loved and missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his two sons, Calvin Lang Jr. (Lisa) and David Lang (Amy), both of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Tripp Lang, Anna Hendrix, Matt Fulford, Drew Lang and Ally Lang; five great-grandchildren, Riley Lang, Crew Lang, Emmie Grace Hendrix, Lawson Lang Hendrix and Huckleberry Fulford; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Allison Memorial Chapel.
