Calvin Wilson Lang Sr., 91, of St. Marys passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at his residence with his family by his side.

Mr. Lang was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and was the son of the late William G. Lang Sr. and Emmie P. Lang. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Purvis Lang, and daughter, Mary Lang Fulford.

He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during World War II, and a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church.

As a second-generation shrimper, it was Calvin Lang who set the course to give the distinct title of Rock Shrimp Capital, and stayed the course, fueling his industry for future generations from one to four to seven shrimp boats at one time. He owned Lang’s East Marina, Lang’s West Marina that had enough dockage space for 100 boats, Lang’s Seafood Restaurant that has received national acclaim and also ferry boats that make the trips to our historic Cumberland Island. Mr. Lang achieved what many men only aspire to: the respect of his employees, his peers and his community. He will be loved and missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his two sons, Calvin Lang Jr. (Lisa) and David Lang (Amy), both of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Tripp Lang, Anna Hendrix, Matt Fulford, Drew Lang and Ally Lang; five great-grandchildren, Riley Lang, Crew Lang, Emmie Grace Hendrix, Lawson Lang Hendrix and Huckleberry Fulford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Allison Memorial Chapel. 

Pallbearers were Drew Lang, Matt Fulford, Tripp Lang, Miles Hendrix, John Miller, Roy Lang, James “Buddy” McGhin and Jay Lassiter.

Honorary pallbearers were Rowland Eskridge, Flem Hall, Jerry Lockhart, Kenneth Harrison, Jerry Brandon, Pete Brandon, Jim Dickey, Bill Smith, Nathaniel Wilson and Charles Floyd.

Yvonne “Suzie” Gray, 64, of Folkston passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Kindred Hospital Northeast Florida in Green Cove Springs, Fla.

Born Dec. 26, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George W. Gray and the late Bonesse R. Gray.

Suzie had resided in Camden County most all of her life. She loved listening to The Beatles, balloons, windmills and watching sports. She would always have a white towel with her and throw it to anyone who walked into her room. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, May 2, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include her cousins, Sharon Mathis of St. Marys, Karen Branch of Jacksonville, Fla., and Aunt BB; and special friends, Brenda Branch, Patricia Jenkins, Mary Jones and Roxanne Turkington.

Rachelle Rose Moberg, 30, of St. Marys passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Rachelle was born May 12, 1987, in Santa Rosa, Calif. She attended Camden County High School and was a member of Christ Church Camden in St. Marys. Rachelle enjoyed camping, shooting, collecting purses and was a Southern country girl.

Survivors include her son, Brayden Lee Ogden of St. Marys, and father, Gary Lee Moberg Jr. of St. Marys.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Christ Church Camden with Pastor Scott Clevenger officiating.

Margaret Fleming Jordan, 88, of St. Marys passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018, surrounded by her devoted family at Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Sister Margaret Fleming Jordan was born March 10, 1930, to the parentage of the late Mr. Garfield Fleming Sr. and Mrs. Estella Fleming. She was the loving wife of Mr. Harvey Jordan Jr., who preceded her in death.

Sister Margaret had a very fruitful life. She attended and graduated from Camden County Training School in St. Marys. After graduation, she went to New York to attend nursing school. She worked as a nurse for 32 years at Gilman hospital in St. Marys.

She was an active member of First African Baptist Church in St. Marys. She was also a life member of Camden County Chapter No. 191, Order of Eastern Stars. She was a mother of four daughters, two of whom preceded her in death, Virginia Jordan Wilson and Sarah Jordan Coleman.

She leaves to always cherish her memory, daughters, Linda Jordan Davis of St. Marys and Carol Roberson (Ronald) of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Kristie Pinkney of Houston, Kala Sullivan (Cory) and Kevin Harvey Davis of St. Marys, and Reginald Wilson and Marcus Wilson of Atlanta; eight great-grandchildren, Darius Sullivan, Tyann Davis, Dejuan Sullivan, Kaelynn Davis and Devin Sullivan, all of St. Marys, Cierra Costick of Japan, Dylann Blackmon of Kingsland and Kalylah Wilson of Atlanta; and two great-great-granddaughters, Kylie and Kamirah.

She also leaves to cherish her memory a very loving and devoted sister, Estella F. German of Folkston. She will always be remembered by her devoted friends, Roscoe and Corrine Alderman; sisters-in-law, Mable Johnson of St. Marys and Deloris Sullivan of Woodbine; brothers-in- law, Robert Jordan Sr. and James Jordan, both of St. Marys; devoted adopted grandsons, Lambert Brown (Rhonda) and Daryell Alderman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at First African Baptist Church in St. Marys. There will be no wake. The body will lie in state two hours before the service. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Gary Dwayne Brown, 57, of Woodbine passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at his residence.

Born July 29, 1960, in St. Marys, he was the son of the late Harvey and Iva Ulmer Brown. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Randy Brown.

Gary was a lifelong resident of Camden County and a graduate of Camden County High School. He retired from Goodrich/United Technology Corporation with 30 years of service and was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Marys. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and spontaneous road trips.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Steve Kegley officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Brown of Woodbine; daughter, Brittni Brown of Woodbine; sister-in-law, Wanda Brown; brother-in-law, Keith Pierce and wife Jeannie; niece, Angela Brannen and husband Adam; nephews, Kody Pierce and Kaleb Pierce; great niece, Alyse Brannen; great nephew, Alec Brannen; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

David Michael Dobson, 57, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at UF Health Shands in Jacksonville, Fla.

David was born Jan. 3, 1961, in Gary, Ind. He had been a resident of Camden County since 1990 and was retired from the United States Navy after 24 years, serving his country honorably during Desert Storm and Iraq. He served on the USS Simon Bolivar, USS West Virginia where he was a plank holder, the USS Pennsylvania and the USS Rhode Island. Following his retirement, he was employed at Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay sub base for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Dobson of St. Marys; sons, David Michael Dobson Jr. and wife Amanda of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Matthew Scott Dobson of Atlanta; granddaughter, Cameron Elizabeth Dobson; and parents, Oval and Patricia Dobson.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. An inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.

Donna Faye Thomas, 69, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the St. Marys convalescent center following a lengthy battle with cancer.

The daughter of Vivian “Bobbie” Lucille Wise and the late Carnell “City Smitty” Smith Jr., Donna was born in Woodbine on July 1, 1948. Donna graduated from Camden County High School, continuing her education with a nursing degree from Brunswick Junior College in 1974. Donna spent time pursuing her nursing career in Missouri and Oklahoma, returning to St. Marys in 2003. Donna utilized her nursing skills to compassionately care for patients throughout the community through various agencies over the years.

Donna enjoyed an avid interest in history, reading and research. Her inquisitive nature led her to be a stranger to no one. Donna was known to strike up conversations with anyone she came upon, sharing a smile and always succeeding in finding a common interest to chat about. Her care and compassion for her fellow man will be sorely missed by many.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Carnell “City Smitty” Smith Sr., and her brother, Carnell Smith Jr., both of St. Marys.

She is survived by her mother, Vivian “Bobbie” Lucille Wise of St. Marys; her sister, Edith Lynn (Tony) Panzone of St. Marys; her son, Chad (Heather) Jones of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Chad Gregory Cartwright of North Carolina, Audrey Jones of St. Marys and Savannah Jones of St. Marys; and six nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Wade) Sweat of St. Marys, Joshua Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Joylynn Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Breanna Smith of Kingsland, Christena Panzone of Brunswick and Maghan Panzone Jacobs of Browntown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Allison Memorial Chapel funeral home in St. Marys. Burial will immediately follow the services at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. The family will welcome friends for reflection and fellowship from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the chapel.

Mr. Woodrow Wilson Monlyn Jr., 76, of Kingsland passed away on May 11, 2018, at his son’s home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1941, to the late Charlotte and Woodrow Wilson Monlyn Sr. in Kingsland. He was raised by his grandmother, the late Elizabeth Council Parland of Blountstown, Fla.

Mr. Monlyn was educated in Camden County, Miami Dade, Fla., and Manhattan, N.Y., schools. He attended Ralph Johnson Bunche High School and played football with the RJB High School Hornets while in attendance.

He was employed with the Camden County Board of Education, the City of Kingsland and various businesses as an auto detailer.

What he enjoyed most besides spending time with his family was singing with the Third Mt. Zion Male Chorus. He loved traveling to visit family members in Savannah and Blountstown. Mr. Monlyn would travel to Blountstown to spend time with his aunt, the late Mary Davis, and cousins. He also enjoyed visiting with his cousin, the late Clyde Jones of Sandhill, Fla.

He leaves to mourn his children, the late LaTanya Monlyn and Charlotte Monlyn of New York, Jinada Thomas of California and Kristopher Daniels (Kayla) of Kingsland.

Being an only child, Woody was raised with Rev. Victor Burt (Sadie), the late Tommy Parland, James Henry, Mary Harris, the late Wave Parland, Ira Lee Parland, Jackie Parland and Herbert Parland. His grandchildren are Fantasia Monlyn and Kalia Monlyn of New York, Jaelin Thomas of California and Kya’lena Daniels of Kingsland.

He admired and respected his close friends, Deacon Leroy Holmes, Deacon Larry Coleman, Bishop Thomas Coleman and Deacon Charles Hardy. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at New Mount Carmel Church on Highway 17 in Gross, Fla. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery in Kingsland.

John L. Waye, 72,  of Kingsland passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 3, 1946, to the late Curtis Waye and Madeline Lambert-Waye in Camden County. John received his education at Ralph J. Bunche High School and he was a 20-plus-year retiree of Gilman paper mill. He was also known for his lawn care services that he provided throughout the community.

John gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Leon Washington, where he served faithfully as an usher and on the trustee board until his health began to fail. John was a fun-spirited, loving husband and a family man who will be sorely missed from our presence but will always be remembered for his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Waye and his brother, Harry Waye.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Geraldine Waye; his loving children, Pam (Carlos) Dilworth, Gerald (Paulette) Waye, Shanda Waye (Alex Hopkins), Tracey Waye and Pastors Kristie (Terrance) Dawson; his grandchildren, Brandon Waye, DeVonte' (Destini) Williams, Carlos Dilworth, Lexie and Layla Dawson, Trayvon Hopkins, Brandon Parrish and Jasmine Hunt;  his beloved mother,  Madeline Way; his sisters, Sandra (Pastor Derry L.) Mainor, Thelma (Joe) Brown, Evang, Annette Stanley; his brothers, James (Mary) Lockley, Lewis Waye, Deacon Kenneth (Loritha) Waye, Ulyssee (Marlene) Waye, Clifford Waye and Larry (Deloris) Waye; his aunts, Ocie (Willie) Armstrong and Essie (Al) Armstrong; his sisters in-law: Dorothy (Nathaniel) Shivalier, Joann (Eddie) Powell, Margie (Charles) Jenkins, Catherine (Maurice) Poole; his brother in-law, Alphonso (Pat) Harris; and a host of nieces  nephews, cousins and friends.

There will not be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state for an hour prior to funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church on Kinlaw Road in Kingsland. Internment in Kinlaw Cemetery.

James A. Jacobs Sr., 95, of Kingsland passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.

James Alexander Jacobs Sr. was born May 12, 1923, in Kingsland. He was the son of the late Alex and Maggie Steele Jacobs. Jacobs was a lifelong resident of Camden County, born in the south end of Kingsland known as Powell Quarters, now the Royal Heights area. He was the oldest living member of his church where he was a devoted member for more than 50 years.

Jacobs worked a total of 60 years in his chosen profession as an automotive mechanic. He worked more than 34 years with Ford Motor Company and Cisco Ford in Kingsland after which he started his own business, JJ’s Garage.

Jacobs faithfully labored for this venture until having to fully retire. Yet until death, in his heart he did daily tune-ups, oil changes, brake jobs and even rebuilt engines some days. He believed in “good customer service with a smile.”

Jacobs married Rosa Mae Scott in June 1941. To this union, eight children were born.

Sons James (Viola Betty) and Johnny Jacobs preceded him in death along with his wife, Rosa Mae Jacobs, who passed March 13, 1991.

Survivors are his children, Joyce Foreman, Julius Jacobs and Jerald Jacobs, all of Kingsland, JoAnn Singleton and Jacquelyn Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., Jonathan (Jerlene) Jacobs of St. Marys and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Jacobs of Kingsland; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; devoted personal friends, care supporters, partners and grandsons, Mario B. Jacobs of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dwayne O. Foreman of St. Marys; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsland. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Interment is in Kingsland Cemetery.

Stevenson Joseph, 89, of Kingsland passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.  

Mr. Joseph was born on April 25, 1929, in Kingsland to the late Joe and Katie Joseph. He attended the Camden County public schools. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1957.  Mr. Joseph was a charter member of American Legion Post 511 in Kingsland, where he enjoyed serving for more than 30 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul AME Church in Kingsland. He loved singing in the choir as well as singing at local churches in and around Camden County. Mr. Joseph worked as a presser in the dry cleaning industry most of his life. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at St. Paul AME Church in Kingsland. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Jimmy F. Watson “Buddy,” 79, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away peacefully on April 5, 2018, at DCH Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubbard and Coreen Watson.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Watson of Fosters, Ala.; his sister, Mary Watkins; his daughter, Lynn Hopper (Mike Stanley) of Northport, Ala.; sons, Brian F. Watson (Kim) of Kingsland and Billy Johnson (Heather) of Haynesville; his grandchildren, Anna Chandler (Keith), Matthew Hopper, Madison Riggins, Hanna Jade Watson (Nawar), Alyssa Swanson and Abbey Kay Johnson; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jim was born on July 31, 1938, in Fosters, Ala. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High in 1956. He and Charlotte lived in Camden County for many years and he worked for Gilman Paper Company in St. Marys from about 20 years.

Jim was a loving husband and father. He was a godly man who loved the Lord and was an inspiration to all who met him. He was happiest when he was outdoors hunting, fishing and “piddling.”

A memorial service was held April 21 at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, Ala.

Eugene Hayes Watson, 81, of Woodbine, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at his residence with his family by his side.

Born Oct. 15, 1936, in Woodbine, he was the son of the late Douglas Hayes Watson and LaVerne Caldwell Watson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stephen Watson.

Mr. Watson was a lifelong resident of Camden County and a graduate of Camden County High School. He was a member of the first football team, playing offense and defense, at Camden High.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably during the Korean conflict. He had been employed with White Oak Plantation, retiring with 30 years of service, and continued his passion as a farrier through all those years. Mr. Watson was a life member of the Tiger Island Hunting Club and enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, working his vegetable garden and cutting firewood. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was of the Methodist faith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Southeast Community Church in Kingsland with Pastor Steve Curtis presiding. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Allison Memorial Chapel.

Fontaine Stafford Breon passed away on May 16, 2018, in Wilmington, Del.

She was born on Dec. 8, 1965, in Augusta, the daughter of Thomas Izlar Stafford Jr. and Nancy Cochran Stafford of Spartanburg, S.C. In her early years, Fontaine grew up in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., where she was active in Girl Scouts, dance and piano. She later moved to St. Marys and graduated from Camden County High School where she was active in the marching band and student government. She attended Mercer University and was class president for three years and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in communications.

After graduation, Fontaine married William Charles "Bill" Breon Jr. and moved to Virginia Beach.  Fontaine's great joy was her son, William Thomas Breon. She was a loving mother and a loving wife of 29 years. Fontaine was also a tireless servant in her church. She led Bible studies, the women's ministry and spent countless hours counseling. She was an incredible first lady of Immanuel Church located in Wilmington, Del., and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 25, at Christ St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Burial followed at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Cochran Stafford.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Dr. William Charles Breon Jr.; their son, William Thomas Breon; a brother, Thomas Izlar “Trey” Stafford III, and sister-in-law, Jan Weigel Stafford; her father, Thomas I. Stafford Jr. and stepmother, Catherine Hoffpauir Nesbitt.

Fontaine was a beautiful Southern belle who radiated the love of Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Lynch-Adams, 82, of Woodbine passed awayat her home May 23, 2018.

She was born on June 12, 1935, in Granville City, N.C., to the late Edgar and Louise Brogden. She graduated from high school in 1953. Barbara retired from South Eastern Bank. She was an avid gardener, seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She spent many years at the Woodbine Baptist Church and shaped many young minds as a preschool Sunday school teacher. Barbara enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She made cross country trips, including a trip to Alaska. Not only was Barbara devoted to her family, she also touched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Ken) Gay of Nahunta and Sheree Lynch Brigman of Mount Holly, N.C.; her six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and her numerous nieces and nephews. Of her family by marriage, she has three stepsons, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband of 39 years, William Lynch; and later her second husband of 16 years, Vern Adams; her four brothers; and her sister.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, graveside at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine with Rev. Eddie Rawl presiding.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Mrs. Lynch-Adams arrangements.

Kenneth Lee Harrison, 90, of St. Marys passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Kingsland, he was the son of the late Robert Ward Harrison Sr. and the late Eva Bunkley Harrison. He was also preceded in death by his four siblings, Ruby Gowen, Robert W. Harrison Jr., Jessie Mae Pickren and Ethel Gowen.

Mr. Harrison was a graduate of Charlton County High School and attended the University of Georgia. Following his education, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Pickren Harrison on May 24, 1948. He went to work for the Charlton County Herald, which was founded by his father, Robert W. Harrison Sr. In April 1950, he moved to St. Marys and founded the Camden County Tribune and was editor until 1976. He then started Harrison Realty, retiring 15 years ago.

Mr. Harrison was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church since 1950, charter member of the Kiwanis Club and was on the board of directors of the First National Bank of St. Marys for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing and entertaining.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Harrison of St. Marys; children, Mike Harrison (Lorraine) of Harrietts Bluff, Joe Harrison (Selena) of Aiken, S.C., and Jeff Harrison (Rita) of Harrietts Bluff; three grandchildren, Craig Harrison, Jamie Lynn Harrison and Marci Harrison Henry; three great-grandchildren, Reed Harrison, Louisa Harrison and Cole Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones presiding. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marys United Methodist Church, Bailey Hall.

The family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Kenneth Harrison be made to the Methodist food pantry.

Terry Wilkerson, 47, of St. Marys died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Woodbine Baptist Church.
