It’s during this time that she obtained her nursing degree from Ocean County College and was employed by the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, N.J.

She moved to Georgia in January of 2001, after retiring from a 30-year nursing career in New Jersey, as she wanted to be closer to some of her children and grandchildren. A patient friend of hers at the center shared: “I saw Joyce every day from the end of November to Feb. 10, when my husband was in the convalescent center. She was always ready with a greeting and happy to see you. She looked after Sandy and watched if he didn’t eat. She also checked on him when he was there in March of 2016. I will miss Joyce a whole lot, as she was always cheerful. Our prayers for the family. She kept it together.”
