Shawvon Tranell “NEW” Roberts, 28, of Kingsland passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born on Feb. 23, 1989, to Virgil L. Waye and Beverly Roberts in Camden County. Shawvon received his education in the Camden County public school system and continued his education at Odyssey Training Center in South Carolina and Turner Job Corp. in Albany.
Shawvon was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Aldophus Roberts and Virgil Waye Sr., and a grandmother, Pearlie Mae Waye.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving mother, Beverly Roberts-Davis (Charles) of Harleyville, S.C.; his father, Virgil Waye Jr. of Kingsland; his loving grandmother, Rosa Lee Roberts of Kingsland; his loving daughter, Shaniyah Roberts of St. Marys; five brothers, Shawntrel Spead, Jerrell Davis and Juan Davis all of Harleyville and Keron Waye and Virgil Waye III (Ebony) both of Kingsland; four sisters, Tabitha Harris of Alexandria, La., Yanquivia Gibbs of Kingsland, Crystal Davis of Harleyville and Latresha (Gregory) Davison of Summervilles, S.C.; his fiancee, Paige Fellows of Folkston; two special aunts, Miriam Broomfield of Kingsland and Vanessa Spead of Pensacola, Fla.; his godmother, Pastor Lenora White of Woodbine; six special friends, Domonique Hargrave, Darius Sullivan, Damien Green, Tarus Gibbs, Dionisio Cox and Centauris Simon; and a host of aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A wake/visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Georgia Avenue Church of God in Kingsland.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road in Woodbine. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery.

Leonard L. Douzart Sr., 51, of Kingsland passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at UF Health Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. There will be no wake. The body will lie in state the day of the service from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery.

Shirley Diana Thomasson of St. Marys answered her call to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at her residence.
Miss Thomasson was born to Reedy and Eva Thomasson on Dec. 5, 1950, in Andalusia, Ala. She was 66 years of age and lived years beyond expectations.
She was a lifelong resident of Andalusia until moving to St. Marys in 2005. She now joins her daddy, mother, a brother James, a sister Linda and a sister Doris in heaven.
She is survived by a special niece and caregiver, Lynn Call (Larry); a nephew, Reggie Thomasson (Bobbie); a niece, Sandra Blaich (Johnie); a niece, Candy McClendon (Joe); a nephew, Sammy Huggins (Beth); and a nephew, Britt Huggins (Shannon); as well as several great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews along with a host of church family and friends.
Shirley was special indeed. She never met a stranger and considered everyone to be her family. She loved everyone and nothing brought her more pleasure than having pictures of her loved ones to brag about. She was a competitive game player, especially cards. She got hours of pleasure putting a name on her list of blankets to crochet for anyone who had a birthday, anniversary, wedding or new baby. Her greatest gift to anyone was that of giving of herself. She was passionate about helping others. She truly had a heart of a servant. If we all would love as hard as Shirley loved, smiled as big as she did and served others as her heart did, what a better world we would live in.

David Hugh Howard, 69, of Kingsland and Jesup died Friday, March 24, 2017, in Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.
The Wayne County native had lived the past 15 years in Kingsland, was a member of Kingsland First Baptist Church and grew up in Akin United Methodist Church. He was a long-term Jesup Lions Club member in which he held several state office jobs and also served as a Gideon International Bible representative.
His parents, Horton and Maude Howard, preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife of 29 years, Valerie Darley Howard of Kingsland; daughter, Dixie (Chris) Dozier of Ludowici; sons, David “Bubba” (Sharmon) Howard of Ludowici, Dustin (Mandy) Howard of Woodbine and Sam Howard of Kingsland; seven grandchildren; sisters, Ann H. (Carl) Torkildsen of Brunswick, Nell Proudfoot and Gracie (Bobby) Groover, both of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Maxie
(Theresa) Howard of Marion, Texas, Donnie (Betty) Howard and Alvin (Jackie) Howard, both of Jesup; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Kingsland First Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Parker officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Akin Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Ms. Deborah Mitchell was born Friday, Dec. 25, 1964, in Waverly. She was adopted by Mr. Roosevelt and Louise Mitchell of Woodbine. She was known as “Christmas” to many, which is Jesus’ birthday and her birthday. She attended Camden County Schools and completed her education at Georgia School for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired at Cave Spring in 1982.
Deborah volunteered at Westlight Baptist Church, Enterprise Baptist Church and many other churches, organizations and people in her community. She always had this special connection with the children and she prayed that she would have two children of her own someday. She joined and attended with her two beloved children, Mary and Matthew Geter, for a time at Mount Orum Missionary Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Mitchell; her biological parents, Robert Lee Small and Maxine Williams Warrick (Leonard); her grandparents, Rosetta Small, Rena Williams and Elijah Williams; and her sister, Coretta Warrick.
Deborah had a thirst for God and was a god-fearing woman. She reached out to lovingly communicate with her family. She was a very gentle person and never met a stranger, always had a smile on her face and love for everyone.
Deborah departed peacefully at Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus, on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the age of 52.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Mr. Jimmie Geter Sr. of St. Marys; loving and caring daughter and son, Mary Geter of Fort Stewart Army base in Hinesville and Matthew Geter of Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Karen Johnson (Charles) of Brunswick, Martina Roberts (Cyrus) of Woodbine, Lynn Zow (James) of Tarboro, Amina Warrick of Memphis, Tenn., and Regina Small of Brunswick; two brothers, Damian Warrick (Kristal) and Quentin Warrick (Toya), all of Virginia Beach, Va.; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Ray Windel Ward Sr., 76, of Kingsland went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Mr. Ward was born on July 29, 1940, in Hazelhurst to the late James and Addie Ward.
Mr. Ward graduated from Savannah High School. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He loved his family and friends especially Arron Kirkland, who stood by his side. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren made his day. He loved his church, the Harbor Worship Center and enjoyed posting Morning Seed from the Harbor Worship Center Sower. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Ward is survived by his sons, Windel (Gina) Ward of Kingsland, Nicky (Kay) Powell of Rincon, Jay (Nancy) Powell of Columbus and Terry Powell of Brunswick; his son-in-law, Wayne Pinegar of Donalsonville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his former wives, Diane Bruce Rowland and Johnny Ward.
Besides his parents, Mr. Ward joins his daughters, Dianna LaRae Ward Pinegar and Maryann Powell; his son, Henry Buddy Powell; his sister, Ernestine Johnson; and his brothers, Virgil, Paul and Frankie Ward in Heaven.
A memorial service for Mr. Ward will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Harbor Worship Center in Kingsland with Pastor Josh Cribbs presiding.

Kathleen Marie Hall, 63, of Kingsland died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Robert Fenton Nevin, 81, of Kingsland passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Bob was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, and spent his childhood in Grosse Isle, Mich., where he graduated high school before being accepted into the United States Naval Academy. He was part of the graduating class of 1957 from the academy and began a long and illustrious career.
His first assignment was aboard the naval destroyer the USS Holder. He then went to sub school in New London, Conn. After sub school, he was assigned to the submarine the USS Cobbler. He then moved west to study oceanography at the University of Washington before moving on to San Diego, Calif., and the USS Spinax.
After the Spinax, his career took a turn toward deep ocean study. He became the commanding officer of the deep sea Bathyscaphe the Trieste II and its tender the White Sands. While in command of the Trieste, he was instrumental in the locating and investigation of going down 11,000 feet to discover the debris field that could help determine the cause of the accident into the loss of the nuclear submarine Scorpion. He was in the 5th company and was one of the coxswains of the Navy crew team.
Bob then moved again East to an assignment with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). After his stint with NOAA, he again moved west to San Diego to become the senior officer of the Naval Undersea Center and the Naval Ocean Systems Center.
Finally, in 1979, his last assignment was to become the executive officer of Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Camden County. Cmdr. Nevin retired from the Navy in 1983 and spent the rest of his life in Camden County.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with full military honors beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Margaret (Peg) Mary O’Donnell, 95, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Friday, March 31, 2017, at the McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville.
Survivors include daughters, Mary (Mike) Neff of St. Marys, Patricia (Jim) Thompson of Indialantic, Fla., and Therese (Richard) Taylor of Jacksonville Beach, Fla; son, Bill (Ruth) O’Donnell of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Joe, Bill, Casey, Katherine, Patrick and Kate; great-grandchildren, Huck, Beckett, Lacy, Alexis and Caelyn; and sisters, Therese Keohane and Geraldine Burns.
Preceding her in death was husband William Patrick O’Donnell Sr. on Oct. 15, 1999, her parents, and sisters, Betty Sullivan and Eleanor Sullivan.
Margaret was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Brookline, Mass., to Jeremiah Joseph Keohane and Mary Margaret Ryan. She was the oldest of five girls. After high school, she attended one year of business school before becoming employed at a Boston bank. She met and married Bill O’Donnell on Feb. 28, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Roxbury, Mass. After Bill returned from World War II, they eventually settled in Tulsa, Okla., where Bill worked for Howard Johnson’s and Peg raised the children.
In 1972, Bill, Peg and daughter Therese moved to Jacksonville where they have been ever since. Peg’s employment in Jacksonville for 25 years was at Assumption Catholic Church for Monsignor Kohls. She had been an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church and the Theresians.
A visitation and funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. She will then be cremated and her remains interred next to “Big Bill” at Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa, near the No. 9 tee off at the Leon Golf & Country Club.

Sherman Roderick Williams, 75, of Kingsland passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, at his residence.
Born Aug. 21, 1941, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late James and Annie Bell Williams. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jessie Ratliff, four brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Williams had resided in Camden County for the past 25 years, was a self-employed air conditioning technician and was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, barbecuing and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

Mildred J. Lavoie, 70, of Woodbine passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Born June 10, 1946, in Broomall, Pa., she was the daughter of Raymond and Mildred Sterner. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rae Joyce.
Mrs. Lavoie had resided in Camden County for the past 15 years and was of the Catholic faith. She was a school bus driver with Wallingford school district, retiring with 17 years of service, a member of the Red Hat Society and a cancer survivor. Her biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Michael Lynn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Burial will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
