Joseph Leon Pinkney Sr., 47, went to be with our Lord Jesus on April 23, 2018, at UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.

Joe was born on June 22, 1970 in Miami to Johnnie C. Pinkney Sr. and Nora Butler Gibbs. Joe was baptized at an early age as a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Tarboro and was proud to be a part of The Voices of Oak Hill choir. He was a graduate of Camden County High School class of 1989. Joe was an avid football fan, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending Bible studies.

Joe worked at Gilman Paper Company until closure and then transitioned to Rayonier Advance Materials in 2003 and was known by his colleagues for his tireless energy.

In May 1996, Joe married the love of his life and longtime companion, Dana. To this union was born three children, Katlyn, Joseph Jr. and Lauryn.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Dana Kay Pinkney of Kingsland; daughter Katlyn (Austin) Pinkney-York of Port Orchard, Wash., son, Joseph Pinkney Jr. and daughter, Lauryn Pinkney of Kingsland; one special grandson, Hendrix York of Port Orchard, Wash.; father, Johnnie C. Pinkney Sr of Miami; mother, Nora Butler Gibbs and stepfather Alonza Gibbs of Tarboro; brother, Johnnie C. Pinkney Jr. of St. Marys; sisters, Anna Baker of Woodbine, Karon (Keith) Ellis of St. Marys, and Loria Gibbs of Kingsland; mother-in-law, Deloris Attaway of Kingsland; sister-in-law, Vonda (Keith) Perry of Savannah; brothers-in-law, Dean Attaway Jr. and Bryan (Jenifer) Attaway of Kingsland and Cris (Melissa) Attaway of St. Marys. He also leaves a godmother, Stella Butler of Tarboro; a special cousin, Emanuel “Bubba D” Butler; and host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Pinkney and Tommy L. Pinkney. 

There will not be a visitation. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Wheeler Street Church of God, 900 Wheeler St. in St. Marys.

Final arrangements entrusted to Royal Funeral Home Inc. in Jesup.
