SLOAN — Robert “Bud” Sloan, 78, of St. Marys passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Bud was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Screven and was the son of the late Clester and Estelle Sloan. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Franklin Sloan Jr.
Bud had been a resident of Camden County since 1958 and was retired from Gilman Paper Company with 41 years of service. Bud loved his gardening, farming and especially his chickens. He was known to all as the “Bee Whisperer."
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Westside Baptist Church with Pastor James Roberson and Pastor Greg Gardell officiating. Interment to follow at Laura Chapel Cemetery in Patterson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Pallbearers will be Roy E. Sloan, Billy Riggins, Jonathan Sloan, Joshua Sloan, Matthew Sloan, Charlie Lineker, Gregory Sloan and William C. Sloan.
Survivors include his wife, Carlie Strickland Sloan of St. Marys; children, Rebecca Ann Donahue (Paul) of St. Marys, Roy E. Sloan (Paula) of Stuttgart, Germany, and William Clester Sloan (Nancy) of Kingsland; brother, Pete Sloan of St. Marys; sisters, Sally Dixon (James) and Joyce Dixon (Oran) of Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Brandy, Billy, Amanda, Jonathan, Joshua, Matthew, Emily and Gregory; six great-grandchildren, Ella, Haidyn, Clayton, Arriana, Sophia and Makenzie; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests contributions in memory of Bud Sloan be made to Westside Baptist Church or Relay for Life.
Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Chapel of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
