Dorothy Nix Peeples, 93, of Kingsland passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
Dorothy was born July 31, 1923, in Kings Ferry, Fla., and was the 14th child born to the late Herbert and Dora Nix. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Rogers A. Peeples, whom she married Nov. 6, 1946.
Dorothy had resided in Camden County since 1957. She served four years with the Internal Revenue Service, 29 years and seven months as city clerk of Kingsland and eight years and four months as City of Kingsland municipal judge, retiring Dec. 31, 2003. She served as president of the Kingsland Woman’s Club, secretary/treasurer of Georgia Municipal Association and served on the board of tax assessors, board of voter registrars and secretary/treasurer of the Brickyard Cemetery in Nassau County, Fla. She was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two sons, Ted Peeples and Roger Dale Peeples (Martha) both of Kingsland; three grandchildren, Jody Peeples, Deidra Tankersley (William) and Desiree Peeples; seven great-grandchildren, Trent Tankersley, Gracyn Bailey, Shelly Tankersley, Amber Tankersley, Dalton Keene, Chloe Clark and Bailey Clark; and several dozen nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at the Kingsland First Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Brian Parker officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow the services at Brazell Peeples Cemetery in Kingsland.
