Mabel Waye, 71, of Woodbine (Kinlaw community) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Rev. Mabel Waye was born May 13, 1946, to Willie and Ruthie Walthour, who both preceded her in death. She was married to Napolean Waye Sr., who also preceded her in death.

Rev. Waye attended the public schools in Yulee, Fla. She served for many years at Carnegie United Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher and president of the choir. Later, she became pastor of several United Methodist circuits in the Waycross and Nahunta areas. She received her degree at Emory University in Atlanta.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Tonja Williams, Napolean Waye Jr., Raleigh Waye (Nadine) and Allen Waye (Denise); one sister, Darlie Mae Bennett; two brothers, Johnnie Walthour (Brenda) and Willie Walthour Jr.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Harvey (Sylvester), Lillie Lanier, Agnes Abdullah and Lula Mitchell (Bryant); one goddaughter, Tasha Hubbard; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Greater Trinity United Methodist Church. There will be no wake. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery.

Sunset Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
