Terry Wayne Strickland Sr. was born on Sept. 3, 1956, in Waycross to William L. Strickland and Helen Perritt Strickland.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, William L. Strickland of Waverly; his mother, Helen Perritt Altman of Waycross; his stepmother, Aggie Harvey Strickland of Waverly; and his nephew,  Robert Dillon Naves of Brunswick.

Terry was an electrician by trade and owner/operator of Strickland Trucking of Kingsland. From the age of 12 years old, Terry started playing the guitar and fell in love with it. He was hooked on music from then on and this naturally developed into playing for others. He played in “Battle of the Bands” in 1971 in Yulee, Fla,. and out of the 15 bands in the competition, his band won. The prize was to play and open up for singer Lynn Anderson (“I Never Promised You a Rose Garden”) in Jacksonville, Fla. It was an amazing night for him and the band. He also loved the outdoors, gardening and fishing.

Terry is survived by his sons, Terry Wayne Strickland Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Travis William Strickland of Kingsland; his granddaughters, Mary Ann Strickland, Annie Marie Strickland and Holly Strickland, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; his two sisters, Jan Strickland of Waycross and Tonya (Mike) Holton of White Oak; his stepbrother, Mike Daskivich of San Antonio, Texas; his nieces, Nicole Gentry of Kingsland and Jennifer (Derek) Dixon of Waycross; his nephew, David Naves of Brunswick; his great-nephew, Tristin Dixon and his great-niece, Natalie Strickland.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Honey Creek Episcopal Church in Waverly. Food will be served after the services in the church social hall.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Mr. Strickland’s arrangements.
