Sparks

James Martin Sparks, 71, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

Born Oct. 16, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank and Edith Gene Beacraft Sparks. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Sparks.

Mr. Sparks had been a resident of Camden County for the past 30 years and was a teacher at Camden County High School for 30 years, touching many lives during his tenure. He was a major in the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably during Vietnam.  He enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Survivors include his loving wife, Florence Sparks of St. Marys; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Kervin Smith of Milledgeville; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Renee Verneau of Alaska; sister, Patricia Friend of Wisconsin; and grandchildren, Seth, Jaden, Brandt, Kathence and Eli.

Memorial services will be held at noon Thursday, June 13, at Kingsland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Herbert McCullough and Dr. Brian Parker officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to services at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Jim M. Sparks Scholarship Fund, at the Heritage Bank, St. Marys branch.

Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
