Schurter

Nancy Kay Schurter, 70, of St. Marys and formerly of Tremont, Ill., passed away May 30, 2019, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Mrs. Schurter was born Aug. 20, 1948 in Springfield, Ill., and was preceded in death by her mother, Abigail Prater Leuelling.

Mrs. Schurter retired from State Farm in Bloomington, Ill., after 10 years of service in 2003. She also worked at Tremont High School, Carmichael Law Firm and Bergners. Together, Jim and Nancy owned Schurter’s Curio Cabinet, dealing with antiques and collectables.

Nancy loved her grandchildren, fishing with her boys and collecting polish pottery with her daughters-in-law. She loved to quilt and was actively involved in local quilting clubs. She developed many dear friends through her passion of quilting. Her family was a recipient of many of her beautiful quilts.  She loved to bake, read, crochet and shared all of these with her family. She attended Kingsland First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, James (Jim) Schurter of St. Marys, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 22, 2019; father, Cyril Leuelling; sons, Jeff Schurter (Lisa) of St. Marys, Matt Schurter (Jasmine) of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Tim Schurter (Angie) of Lexington, N.C.; grandchildren, Paige Schurter, Kolin Schurter, Racheal Schurter, Nathan Schurter, Kaiden Schurter, Ramona Schurter and Tessa Schurter; sisters, Janet Mansell (Bill) of Prescott, Ariz., and Diane Massey (Larry) of Morton, Ill.; and brother, Ron Leuelling (Julie) of Denver, N.C.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Pastor Brian Parker officiating and with visitation at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment followed at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kingsland First Baptist Church.

Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.
