John Samuel Grier Jr. (Sam), 86, of St. Marys passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019, following a brief illness.
He was born on June 10, 1932, in Eufala, Ala., to the late John Samuel and Essie Grier. He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Irmarie Rogers Grier.
He retired after 43 years at Gilman paper mill. He was an accomplished carpenter who believed in doing it right the first time. He was also the owner of Doug’s Drive-In in Kingsland, Woodbine and St. Marys where his speciality was barbecue.
He is survived by his children, John, Doug, Dell, Kathy and Beth, and their families; a brother, Irvin; and a sister, Nancy. He is also survived by Mary and dear friends in St. Marys.
