
Barbara Joan Motte Barnes passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
She was born in Charleston, S.C., on July 29, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Buddy” Barnes, and her precious young daughter, Kathy Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her parents, C.E. and Frances Motte, Winnie and Kelly Turner; and two brothers, Calvin and Van Motte.
She is survived by her twin sister, Jean Price; and brothers, Bill Motte, Chris Motte and Dale Motte.
She is also survived by her children, Mike (Tami) Barnes, Doug (Debbie) Barnes, Jody Barnes and Kim (Greg) Larkin; and grandchildren, Megan (David) Caison, Blair (Steven) Bota, Danielle Murgic, Brittany Barnes, Carson Barnes, Gabe Larkin, Whitney Larkin and Tyler Larkin.
She was a loving grandmother to seven great-grandchildren and a loving Aunt Joan to many nieces and nephews.
She was retired from the Camden County Board of Education. She loved her work as a paraprofessional and loved telling stories of the many wonderful children she was able to work with through the years. She also loved working in the yard, singing in the choir at her church and giving to and doing for others.
Visitation was held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at First Baptist Church in St Marys. A funeral followed at the same location at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Bobby Woods officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in St Marys.
