Roberts

Former St. Marys city councilman Gerald C Roberts passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2018, at Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick at the age of 74.

He was a member of Greater United Methodist Church in St, Marys and a graduate of Ralph J Bunche High School, class of 1962.

Mr. Roberts was a man of great integrity. He was selected as one of the 10 most influential men in Camden County and served on countless boards and authorities, including the Development Authority of St. Marys.

On Dec. 8, 2016, the City of St. Marys planted a tree on Osborne Street in honor of  Mr. Roberts for giving more than 40 years of community service. Mr. Roberts served on the St. Marys City Council for 14 years as the mayor pro tem and council member. He was called by many the “Community Neighbor.” He indeed was    a lover of mankind.

Along with his parents Tommie and Rebecca Roberts, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Virgil Roberts, Leo Roberts and Altermese Roberts Washington.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty H Roberts, of 53 years; two daughters, Janie (Rev. Jaunce) Wilson and Nivea (Antonio) Gonzelalez; three grandchildren, Xavier, Jacob, and Victoria; and a host of  family and friends.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the First African Baptist Church in St. Marys, 812 Wheeler St. There will not be a viewing, however, the body will lie in repose two hours prior to the service.

Royal Funeral Home of Jesup is entrusted with arrangements.
