ETC (SS) Harrison “Stan” Stanley, (USN Ret.), departed on eternal patrol on Nov. 28, 2017.

Harrison was born March 11, 1935, in Mesa, Ariz. He joined the United States Navy after graduating high school in 1953 and served in the submarine force as a navigation electronics technician. His duty assignments included the USS Raton (SSR-270), USS Springer (SS-414), commissioning crew of USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608) (Blue), USS Kamehaha (SSBN 642) (Gold) and ships control instructor at Naval Training Center Pearl Harbor. He retired in 1973 as a chief petty officer.

After his retirement, Stan was employed in San Jose, Calif., at Honeywell Computers. His field service position then led Ireta and Stan to Tennessee, Maryland and back to California. While living back in California, Stan suffered a stroke. Stan and Ireta then moved to Colorado to be close to their daughter, Ginger Brown, and son-in-law, Charles Schwartz. Due to the weather and Stan's health, they subsequently made the move to Georgia to live closer to their daughter, Pam, and son-in-law, Andy Huck. He moved in 2011 to Kingsland, where he resided with his wife of 61 years.

Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Ireta; his sisters, Nellie Jolly and Carmelita Barnett; his brother, Mikie Stanley; his children, Virginia Brown/Charles Schwartz, Edward Woodard and Andy Huck/Pamela Huck; his grandchildren, David Brown, Chris/Gina Brown, Traci Woodard, Will/Stephanie Huck and Joe/Andrea Curtis; and his great-grandchildren, Shane Brown, Isabella Brown, Juliana Brown, Samantha Woodard, Allison Woodard, Astin Curtis and Kendall Huck.

A private memorial service will be held in Kingsland sometime in January.

Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
