Robb M. Smith, 51, of Woodbine passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at his residence.
A native of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Robb was the son of the late John L. Smith and Betty Cosson Montroy. He grew up in Fernandina Beach and attended Fernandina Beach High School.
His family relocated to Marietta where he graduated from Walton High School, Class of 1982. Robb played trumpet in the school band, was an avid outdoorsman and loved water sports.
He enrolled in the University of Phoenix where he received his associate’s degree and also attended San Juanta Junior College in Houston. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at San Diego Naval Base. Robb was then transferred to Groton submarine base in Groton, Conn., and he served in Guam before returning to Kings Bay where he retired as a chief in 2005 after 20 years of service.
On April 16, 2010, he married the former Dawn Kelly of St. Marys.
Robb leaves behind his wife, Dawn Smith of Woodbine; his mother, Betty C. (Dan) Montroy of Cumming; brother, Bo (Brenda) of Yulee, Fla.; his son, Justin (Jennel) Smith of Veneta, Ore.; granddaughters, Kallie Smith and Shelby Smith both of Veneta; stepdaughter, Eileen (Frank) Shelley of Kingsland; grandson, Miciah Shelley of Kingsland; and stepson, Jim Kelley of Houlton, Maine.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Burgess chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home followed by military honors given by the U.S. Navy, Kings Bay.
A reception will follow after the service. The family requests that everyone attending the service dress casual.
