Rutha Mae Morris, 96, of Kingsland was ushered peacefully by the heavenly angels into the glorious heavenly realm on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Mother Morris was born, reared and schooled in Camden County. She was the eighth sibling of 12 born to Deacon Edwin H. Waye and Hattie Stewart-Waye, who all preceded her in death.
On March 12, 1938, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lester Morris and three children were born to this union, Malachi, Ruby (Peter J.) and Mary. Mother Morris was devout in her Christian faith. She was a real soldier in the army of the Lord. She loved God and was adamant in her expressions of him. Mother Morris was a former member of the Georgia Avenue Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Arthur Dawson Jr. She later worshipped at the O Street Church of God in Brunswick and the Camden Avenue Church of God in Woodbine, both under the leadership of Bishop Peter J. Sibley Jr. and presently under the divine leadership of Bishop Terry Mack Sr. at the Camden Avenue Church of God.
She leaves to reminisce and cherish her memories, one son, two daughters and one stepdaughter, Karen; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one godson, Homer Sullivan; seven sisters-in-law, Gussie Davis and Eula Morris of Miami Beach, Fla., Pearlie Thompson, Bessie Morris and Nevada Morris of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Elizabeth Morris of Detroit and Christine Morris of Woodstown, N.J.; many nieces, nephews and Christian friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Georgia Avenue Church of God in Kingsland. There will be no wake. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery.
