John W. Gantz, 52, of St. Marys passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at his residence.
John was born Dec. 10, 1964, in Miami Beach, Fla. He had been a resident of Camden County for the past 20 years and attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys.
John retired from the United States Navy with 20 years active service. He was a submariner and served on the USS Benjamin Franklin, the USS John C. Calhoun, the USS Nebraska and OTSU. He was a very active volunteer with the St. Marys Express and the St. Marys Little Theatre. John enjoyed his music as well as collecting trains.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Theatre by the Trax in St. Marys.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, William and Rita Gantz of Melborne, Fla.; children, Michael Gantz (Danielle), James Gantz and Elizabeth Gantz, all of St. Marys, and Christopher Morgan of Coral Springs, Fla.; grandson, Michael Joseph Gantz; former wife and best friend of 25 years, Suzanne Gantz of St. Marys; many friends and colleagues and especially Donnie and Theresa Chamberlin and Sue and Mark Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lita G. Gantz.
